Aug 06, 2012 Visited Pastor Paul Tabon's Church

Date: 6th day of August, 2012

Weather: Still raining

Story:

I didn’t write this diary for last 3 days. I may skip some days without writing diary because there is no news to be memorized. But I skipped very good experience so I’m writing that story now.

I visited Philippine DFC director, Pastor Paul Tabon’s Church last Sunday, just yesterday. It’s located in front of 2nd gate of BSU(Banguet State University). He invited me and my wife but I only went there because my wife’s condition was not good.

I attended 10am worship service. When I visit some churches, I usually see worship bands first because always music is played before sermon in every church. It sounded good so much. Especially the pianist can play the keyboard nicely. There was no drum but he can also play the drum sounds through a function of the electric keyboard. Even singers, guitarists are very well.

Then we were delivered a beautiful sermon from former missionary. He is a Filipino who worked in Thailand before. He introduced a tree in Thailand. There are two season also. They are dry season and rainy season. The tree didn’t have any leaves during dry season. It looked died. But, during rainy season, there are many leaves on the same tree like it has restored. He compared this with our lives. And he mentioned we need to see rainy seasons can have abundance leaves even if our lives are dried and died now. It would comfort attendants because there was a terrible typhoon hurts many families for a whole week. He delivered a sermon but they received a comfort. That’s good.

Pastor Paul Tabon led me to attend a thanksgiving ceremony for a family moving into a new-built house. The family invited many relatives and neighbors for sharing blessing they’ve gotten. Yes, they were really doing that to follow God why Abraham was called to. There were many party dishes. Lechon(whole pork bbq), Kakanin(brown-colored rice cake), pansit(noodle) and etc. I think they consumed much money for that. When I was young, South Korea had the same culture before. We liked to invite other people for our own party and ceremony.

Traditionally Korean people thought those inviting people and sharing food with them may bring god’s blessing. So really I really love to do it but nowadays no Korean is doing that. Before the big lunch, Pastor Paul Tabon announced to share candles together and we prayed for the family and their house for getting more blessing from God. And we ate Pansit for requesting their long life. I experienced family party in the Philippines for the first. I was happy because I could discovered our lost tradition. And I think that inviting people and sharing foods shall be Christian Cultures like God invited us and fed us spiritually, physically.
